Located in the Draa Valley , on the edge of Oued Draa , 700 m above sea level, at the foot of Zagora Mountain, where the Almoravids built a fortress to protect the region from its enemies. Situated 160 km south of Ouarzazate, Zagora is the last city on the road to the Saharan desert. Zagora is lively and hospitable. It offers everything that can make life easy for visitors : banks, pharmacies, hospitals , doctors, mechanics, groceries, and of course, cafes, snack bars and restaurants, shops featuring jewelry, carpets, clothing, places where you will be welcomed with a mint tea and a welcoming smile.
Zagora today has an airport that connects the region to Casablanca twice a week, plus daily and reliable bus services and taxis.
Zagora is the site where caravans to Tombouctou were departing until the mid 20th century, as evidenced by the ” Tombouctou 52 days ” sign, and it is the last stop before the treks, tours and camel trips to the desert . This is why people here have a thorough knowledge of the desert, and have perfected the art of exploring it safely. In Zagora you can meet young and old inhabitants willing to share their passion for the Sahara desert .
At the crossroads of various directions ,Ouarzazate to the North, Tata and Tafraoute to the West, Erfoud and Merzouga to the East and M’Hamid and ergs to the South, Zagora offers an ideal location for further exploring the region.
The city is also a crossroads of cultures and populations, which is manifested through clothing styles, ceremonies (marriages) and music.
Excursions, camping, trekking from my Riad Villa Sahara
My villa lies at the heart of a palm grove, in the village of Zagora, an oasis in the Sahara desert, a small piece of paradise on earth. It provides complete comfort and a total change of scenery and culture.
Warning! Just because comfort surrounds you, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t explore for you are located on the road to many destinations.

Half day trip:
The palm grove, the mountains, the souk, Tamgrout, Ouled Othman, the Lybico Berber stone engravings in Foum Chenna.
Ouled Brahim , the rock site of Tazzarine, Ouled Othman and the Draa Valley . We can also organize treks of several days with dromedaries and dromedary drivers, alone or in a group.
Bivouacs:
Bivouacs on Lake Iriki, Erg Lehoudi or Er Chegag.
